AWS launched the Well-Architected Framework Review to assist cloud architects in designing and continuously improving secure, high-performing, robust, and cost-optimized infrastructure for their applications.
Increased digital innovation velocity, reduced capital costs, the same cutting-edge infrastructure employed by security-focused businesses, and the capacity to achieve global scale in minutes. It’s one thing to “lift-and-shift” your workload to the cloud; it’s quite another to thoroughly assess if that burden is cloud-optimized. But how can you know you’re getting the full benefit once you’re in the cloud? That’s where a Well-Architected Innovative Review comes in.
AWS Well-Architected Framework
The AWS Well-Architected Framework is a set of principles designed to assist architects in designing and building safe, efficient, and resilient cloud systems. It is built on six pillars: operational excellence, security, dependability, sustainability, performance efficiency, and cost reduction. The framework gives guidelines and guidance for analyzing and improving existing architectures as well as building new ones.
Cost Optimization Pillar
The cost optimization pillar is concerned with avoiding unnecessary expenses. Understanding spending over time and controlling fund allocation are key themes, as are selecting the proper type and quantity of resources, and expanding to meet corporate demands without overpaying.
Security Pillar
The security pillar is concerned with the protection of information and systems. Key themes include data confidentiality and integrity, user authorization management, and implementing procedures to identify security occurrences.
Reliability Pillar
The reliability pillar is concerned with workloads fulfilling their intended duties and recovering rapidly from failure in order to satisfy demands. Distributed system design, disaster recovery planning, and adjusting to changing requirements are all important subjects.
Performance Efficiency Pillar
The performance efficiency pillar is concerned with the systematic and simplified allocation of IT and computing assets. Selecting resource types and sizes that are optimized for workload specifications, monitoring performance, and preserving efficiency as business demands grow are all important themes.
Sustainability Pillar
The sustainability pillar is concerned with reducing the environmental impact of cloud workloads. A shared responsibility paradigm for sustainability, identifying impact, and maximizing use to minimize required resources and lessen downstream impacts are among the key concerns.
Operational Excellence Pillar
The operational excellence pillar is concerned with the operation and monitoring of systems, as well as the continuous improvement of processes and procedures. Change automation, event response, and setting standards to govern everyday operations are all important subjects.
How does AWS Well-Architected Review run?
A statement of work must be electronically signed three days prior to the initial review before the Well-Architected Framework Review may begin. If this is not completed, your review will be immediately canceled, and you will have to reschedule.
Your Well-Architected Framework Review will cost $5,000 USD and will include every step of the engagement, including initial review, tool assessment, findings/remediation, and AWS financing support. An initial payment of $2,500 USD will be taken at the start of the engagement, and another payment of $2,500 USD is due when the remediations have been completed and reviewed (45% of Critical Items). As part of the project closure, we will also assist you in obtaining AWS money to aid with the outstanding remediations.
